Sinui Guseul lands in Busan as SLL courts buyers with episode one

SLL screened Sinui Guseul episode one at Busan Content Market 2026, spotlighting Ahn Bo-hyun, Lee Sung Min and its Prime release path.

SLL put both drama and variety programming at the front of its Busan Content Market 2026, or BCM 2026, presentation. The company gave 'Sinui Guseul' its first public episode screening in Korea, while also adding the Netflix series 'The Art of Sarah' and an award for Studio Slam to the set of credentials it could show overseas buyers.

This year's BCM ran from June 10 to 12 at BEXCO in Busan. Marking its 20th edition, the event operated market meetings, funding programs, conferences, academy sessions, and networking in parallel, placing content-trading opportunities beside screenings for general audiences.

SLL grouped several titles and formats for the market, including 'Reborn Rookie,' 'Sinui Guseul,' 'Just Makeup,' and 'Sing Again.' The lineup allowed the company to present scripted series and unscripted IP together, giving buyers more than one path into its current slate.

The title placed most prominently was 'Sinui Guseul,' which screened its first episode in a 60-minute presentation. The 14-part historical drama is set during the 1258 war between Goryeo and Mongolia and follows warriors who set out to find Sinui Guseul, a sacred relic described as protecting the country.

The series brings together writer Jeong Hyeon-min and director Jeong Dae-yoon. Its cast includes Ahn Bo-hyun, Lee Sung Min, Claudia Kim, Ha Yoon-kyung, and Yoon Kyun Sang. Celltrion Entertainment and SLL are handling production, while SLL is also responsible for sales.

'Sinui Guseul' had already been introduced overseas as a world premiere at the Cannes International Series Festival before meeting audiences again in Busan. In effect, a project that first built recognition at an international event moved into a special screening slot at a domestic content market.

The first-episode screening and the Cannes invitation do not, by themselves, prove the eventual performance of the series. What has been established at this point is the project's record of exposure, its creative team and cast, and its planned platform route. SLL presented those points together on the ground in Busan.

At BCM, 'Sinui Guseul' was featured on June 10 through a GV event and screening in the CANNESERIES x Busan program. Director Jeong Dae-yoon appeared on stage, and the afternoon screening showed the first episode in a 60-minute version. Ahn Bo-hyun, Lee Sung Min, and Claudia Kim also attended the pink carpet to promote the work.

Historical drama is a genre that can carry both advantages and burdens for overseas viewers. Period settings, costumes, and war scenes can create strong visual appeal, but an unfamiliar historical background can slow the entry point for viewers outside Korea.

'Sinui Guseul' uses the comparatively clear objective of a journey during wartime. Instead of relying first on complicated palace relationships, the structure can communicate pursuit, movement, and mission execution as its initial engine.

The cast composition is also part of the sales explanation. Ahn Bo-hyun brings an image built through action and genre projects, while Lee Sung Min has anchored works through weighty character acting. Claudia Kim's experience in overseas activity also makes her name useful in global promotion.

The release plan for 'Sinui Guseul' has been confirmed as JTBC and Coupang Play in Korea and Prime overseas. That gives the title a structure that combines a broadcast channel, a domestic OTT service, and a global platform.

SLL is not only participating in production but also introducing the work overseas directly as its sales company. Buyer responses at a market can shape the materials and messaging used when the company presents its next titles.

A strongly defined historical drama such as 'Sinui Guseul' is difficult to explain through posters or cast names alone. A first-episode screening, a director conversation, and platform-release plans can communicate the size and direction of the project in more concrete terms.

A title attached to both domestic broadcast and OTT also divides its viewer entry points after release. Broadcast can create a broad public point of contact, OTT can give viewers a way to catch up by episode, and an overseas platform can carry that interest into other regions.

SLL did not come to BCM with drama alone. The company also introduced variety IP such as 'Just Makeup' and 'Sing Again' in the same setting. Drama meets overseas buyers through story and production scale, while variety formats meet them through repeatability and the possibility of localization.

'Just Makeup' was also covered in a BCM Academy session focused on its production process. The work of turning beauty into competition entertainment, along with contestant composition and mission design, functions as format material that can be redesigned for other regions.

'Sing Again' is likewise a brand built within the broader structure of a music audition show. Its appeal is shaped through participant stories and stage construction, giving buyers a recognizable framework rather than only a finished Korean broadcast title.

During the event, SLL also recorded results at the BCM OTT Series Awards. The Netflix series 'The Art of Sarah' received the work award in the genre mystery category, and Yoon Hyeon-jun, head of SLL label Studio Slam, received the EP of the Year award.

An award at a market does not immediately guarantee a sales contract. It does, however, become material for buyer meetings by showing what kind of work the company has recently made and which producers have received recognition.

SLL's BCM 2026 schedule closed as a combined showcase of the pre-broadcast historical drama 'Sinui Guseul,' variety formats, and recent award results. With the series headed to JTBC, Coupang Play, and Prime, the first episode shown in Busan now becomes an early asset for later sales and promotion.
